Surprisingly, a Massachusetts jury actually convicts a murderer.

BOSTON, MA - A Massachusetts jury found a Boston man guilty of first-degree murder after the man confessed to killing his neighbor in 2024. The verdict comes a month and a half after the intense five-week trial where Lindsay Clancy faced life in prison for murdering her three children. Even though Clancy did in fact kill her children, the jury could not reach a verdict. Clancy’s attorney argued that she was not guilty by reason of insanity. With a hung jury, the judge declared a mistrial.
Surprisingly, things turned out differently for Adam Michaelson, who admitted to killing his neighbor after he claimed that the voice of Santa Claus told him to do it. On the advice of his attorney, Michaelson testified in his own defense. However, Michaelson turned out to be the prosecutor’s star witness.
“Aren’t you insane?” asked Michaelson’s attorney at trial.
“Of course, I am,” testified Michaelson. “I heard Santa Claus. Who wouldn’t be insane if they heard that and then killed someone? I’m crazy as hell.”
“Then you’re not guilty by reason of insanity, correct?” asked Michaelson’s lawyer.
“Did you hear what I said? I killed that guy. There is no question about who did it because I did it. How can I not be guilty?”
The jury broke a Massachusetts record for the fastest verdict in state history. “Thirty seconds is all it took,” said juror number five, who wished to remain anonymous. “It would have been quicker, but the jury foreperson had to use the restroom.”
The verdict is the second fastest in United States history. The fastest jury verdict in history came in 1995 when a California jury found former NFL star and award-winning actor OJ Simpson guilty of murdering his wife and her friend. The jury only deliberated for fifteen seconds.
Michaelson’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for next week.
