Florida man responds to Sheriff's Facebook post, reunites with lost cocaine.

MIAMI - A Florida man was reunited with his lost cocaine after responding to a social media post made by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Last weekend, South Beach sunbathers alerted law enforcement to several bricks of cocaine that washed up on shore. Hoping to find the owner quickly, deputies went to social media. “The first 24 hours are always the most critical,” the Sheriff told reporters at a press conference. “Once the hours turn to days, and then to weeks, reunification becomes nearly impossible.”
The Sheriff’s deputies turned to the public for help. “Our deputies went straight to Facebook Marketplace, and we received a call from the owner within ten minutes. I’d like to thank our deputies for their quick thinking. If they hadn’t, these bricks would be merely another statistic.”
Last year, officials discovered 16,356 cocaine bricks on United States beaches, but they could only return drugs to 13 owners.
The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, responded to the post by calling the Sheriff’s Office. “When I saw the pictures, I knew immediately they were my bricks. I’m just glad whoever found them didn’t take them for themselves. It’s refreshing to know that honest people still exist. It gives me hope for our children.”
The deputies delivered the lost cocaine to the owner. “Deputies dropped off the bricks. I didn’t even have to leave my house. Within 30 minutes of making the call, the bricks were neatly stacked on my dining room table. I want to thank the Sheriff’s Office for everything they do, especially Deputies Connor and Mathers.”
If you, or someone you know, have misplaced cocaine, please call or text the Missing Cocaine Hotline, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Services are free and confidential.
